Good Morning, Everyone!

Sorry I am a day late with my update but yesterday we attended the wedding of Nicholas Makau who I believe most of you know.  It was a beautiful ceremony at Kitui Village so we left here at 6 AM so we could be in time for the wedding ceremony at 10 AM.  we got there with plenty of time to spare so we had time to walk around and see the village and greet the people.  Father Dag would be delighted to see how well things are going and to see the happy faces of the people, especially the children.  One of the most touching parts of the ceremony was at the offertory time when one of the gifts was a child handed to Nicholas as a symbolic gesture of his and Faith's call to care for the children, their own and those of the village. At the wedding ceremony Faith was also baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church before she was married.  At this point Father asked all those to stand who had supported her in her faith journey and led her to ask to be baptized in the Catholic Church.  i thought this is a real symbol of ecumenism to thank the members of her church for the faith they had shared with her. After the ceremony Nicholas and Faith rode on a donkey cart to where they were having their photos taken with various groups.  At this point Maureen from Nyumbani was ready with a beautiful display of wedding cakes that she had baked, decorated and beautifully displayed.  We were not able to stay any longer but I'm sure thecake cutting ceremony was great and the cake was as delicious as it looked. Please say a special prayer for Nicholas and Faith that God will continue to bless them with love and happiness.

the kids finished school this week.  Haven't gotten all of the results yet but I'm anxious to find out how many children will be in my 400 Club and need a special treat for their excellent academic performance.  Mungai did fairly well when you take into consideration that he never went to standards 1 and 2 and it was his first time in regular school.  We'll work with him during the break and help him to improve.  He is just going to need some time to adjust to the new school setting.he went this week and had his ears check.  Both ears are still fine.  he is not experiencing any ear problems.$$We begin our August School Holiday Program on Monday.  i think we are all set.  we are as ready as we can be.  i keep telling the volunteers to be sure they have their class and club work ready because if we are not ready for them they are always ready for us.  I learned this lesson well from my many years as a teacher and principal.  So, please pray all our plays work out pretty well so that the kids learn and have fun and so do the volunteers.

Elizabeth is doing well and spent a day out with Jeremy Hunt yesterday.  she isn't strong enough yet to take a trip to the UK but when she is she'll be able to go.  Ken is fine but we still need to work on him gaining weight.  all of the other kids are fine but please continue to keep all of our children in your prayers.

Three of our girls went to Nakuru for 4 days to represent our school district in a national poetry contest.  Tehy were Ann and Faith from C and maureen from the girl's hostel.  all did well and the school came in 6th nationally.  We are waiting to hear if any of them took an individual prize but are very proud that 3 Nyumbani girls were selected for this honor.  They performed their poems for us and really did a great job.  As far as we are concerned they are all champions.

Four of our children, Julia, Priscilla, Paul from E and Paul from AB took a trip with Jeremy Hunt to the Masai Mari.  All seemed to enjoy themselves and got to see lots of animals since it is migration time. Those of you who know Paul from E will be happy to hear that he got to go because his conduct had improved so much.  He was so happy to hear this and i think he was the most excited about going and seemed to enjoy it the most.  It was a real treat for all of them. It was so good of jeremy to trat them.  His goal is to keep tripping until every child has had the experience of going on a trip with him.  Actually I think he enjoys it as much if not more than the kids do.  We are grateful to him for his kindness and generosity to our children.  He is a loving member of our Nyumbani extended family.

All of our girls 9 and over as well as a few boys got to go to the Royal Ballet this week with the help of 4 volunteers.  it was a wonderful treat for the kids. It was held at the Bomas which is a theater in the round so they were able to see everything. They all attentively listened to the music and watched the dancers perform for 2 hours.  Of course, they especially liked the modern ballet where one dancer pretended to be drunk and then a group of dancers pretended to be dancing together at a cafe and one of the pairs of dancers were having all types of problerms and cause everyone to laugh.   What they were doing was actually excellent ballet that was enjoyed by all. These dancers offered their services free of charge and all of the proceeds were going to help the environment and HIV+ children.  The performance ended with flowers being presented to the performers and three of our girls were so happy to be selected to present flowers.

Sister Mary will be leaving us tomorrow to go on a fundraising trip to Italy, ireland, UK and the states.  Those of you who are going to the fundraiser in September in the states will get to see her.  Please pray that all goes well for her and she returns safely to us.  She will really be missed here but weall know how important this trip is for Nyumbani.  We are blessed to have so many supporters in all of these countries and it is great for them to hear directly form Sister Mary how grateful we are for their support and how well all of their funds are being used to benefit the children in all of our Nyumbani programs.

That's all for now.  I need to go get ready for mass.  Know that you are all loved and missed.  Please pray for us as we pray for you.
